Sandie Heirwegh Sandie Heirwegh, Executive Director

Sandie brings a broad spectrum of skills and expertise to her role as Executive Director. Her background includes international entrepreneurial development where she worked on projects in South Africa, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, China, Bangladesh and Indonesia. In May 2008, she was honoured to receive the “Woman of Distinction” award for the category of Business, Industry and Entrepreneurship in Hamilton. In 2017, Sandie received a Canada 150 Medal for her innovative efforts to bring people living with mental illness to feel included and valued in their community.  

Sandie has an ambitious vision for True Experience and is excited to be working in her own community trying to make a positive difference. She applies her business savvy in many ways including serving as President of the Rotary Club of Dunnville for 2019 - 2020; Bridges Out of Poverty – Innovation Action Team & Mental Health Action Committee; Suicide Prevention Network of Haldimand-Norfolk; Mental Health and Addictions Action Table for Haldimand-Norfolk and Dunnville Chamber of Commerce.
True Experience Logo Sharon Arnold, Office and Special Events Co-ordinator

Sharon has been a resident of Haldimand County for most of her life. She is a valued and well-known community member who chairs the Cayuga & District Community Policing committee. Prior to her retirement, Sharon had a very productive and successful career in the employment and skills training sector where she helped thousands of people find meaningful work in Hamilton and Haldimand. 

The opportunity to work in the mental health field struck a chord with Sharon so she came out of retirement and joined True Experience on a part-time basis. Since her arrival, Sharon has been instrumental in facilitating many activities including the United Way Car Wash, Dunnville Grand Tour, World Suicide Prevention Day event and the on-going White Board Campaign; food drives for the local food bank; craft and baking sessions with clients and the creation of a social media presence for the organization. 

Sharon`s positive attitude and her desire to bring out the best in people make her ideal for her second career at True Experience!
Jillian Spencer Jillian Spencer, Coordinator of Supportive Housing

After graduating from Brock University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts Psychology, Jill became a full-time Residential Support Worker at Opportunity House. In 2019, Jill moved over to Trillium Manor where she oversees the operations. She brings a compassionate, common sense approach to her client centered work. In addition to client interaction and support, Jill is the technical expert on the team. She tracks and reports all of the necessary statistical data.  

Born and raised in Dunnville, Jill loves her community but enjoys travelling to far away interesting places.
Jillian Spencer Tina Edgar, Residential Support Worker

Tina joined our team in June 2018. She is a qualified Personal Support Worker. Tina is responsible for the daily operations at Opportunity House. She takes great pride in her work and is very passionate and caring when it comes to her clients. Tina really shows the love in her heart for the work that she does. Outside of work, Tina loves to spend time with her furry friends. She also enjoys travelling and her gardens.

Jillian Spencer J.J. Arnold, Residential Support Worker

One of our newest team members, J.J. has lived experience with mental illness. On his road to recovery, he found True Experience.  J.J. participated in the Community Work Program for almost 3 years.  This helped him regain his self-confidence and independence.  J.J. knew he wanted to help people living with mental illness.  He set his sights on returning to school and recently completed a two year Social Services Worker program and obtained a diploma from Fanshawe College and made the Dean’s List.  Now armed with education and experience, J.J. is making a difference in the lives of the clients of True Experience and the residents of Trillium Manor. 
Jillian Spencer Ange Fowler, Residential Support Worker

Ange has lived in Dunnville for 20 years and is very active in the community. She has great interest in projects that help enhance the quality of life for others. Ange’s life has been touched by mental health struggles which is one of the reasons she is so passionate about being there to support others and trying to make a difference in their lives. Ange is peer support certified with certificates in Mental Health First Aid and Safe Talk.

Jillian Spencer Glenn Tocher, Work Program Supervisor

Glenn joined True Experience in July 2019 as a Work Program Supervisor. As such, he oversees and supports our clients on the lawn maintenance and snow removal crews. Glenn is also the key person in charge of equipment repairs and general upkeep of the True Experience properties.

As a self-driven individual who takes pride in his work, Glenn is an excellent role model. He believes teamwork is a key to success and works hard to encourage that while providing motivation and development opportunities for our clients.

In his spare time, Glenn enjoys spending time on the water fishing or playing a round of golf. It’s a pleasure having Glenn on Team True. His warm and friendly personality is valued by everyone.
Phinn “Phinn”, Greeter and Mascot

Phinn takes his responsibilities at True Experience very seriously. He greets all visitors with open paws! Regardless of what kind of day one might be having, leave it to Phinn to put a smile on the faces of everyone that crosses his path.
Phinn Dinozzo – AKA “Dino”, Apprentice Greeter and Mascot

Dino is the newest member of Team True. Under the guidance of Phinn, he is learning the ropes about what it takes to be an awesome greeter and mascot. Dino is a quick learner and already has captured the hearts of many with his adorable and lovable ways. When not napping on Sandie’s desk, he enthusiastically doles out kisses to everyone he meets.

True Experience counts on key supporting people to keep things running smoothly.

Audrey Kamel is a business systems analyst/consultant who administers the reporting that is required by the funders. She is also a valuable resource in every aspect of the operations at True Experience. We are very fortunate to have Audrey on our team! 

Providing opportunities for students to gain career related experience in their chosen field is something that True Experience is committed to. Throughout the year, students come to the organization and work in various capacities including social work, event planning, residential support, and lawn maintenance. It’s all part of the goal to build a strong community.
